Kenita Miller-Hicks

Kenita Miller-Hicks is a Tony-nominated, AUDELCO and Drama Desk Award-winning actor and member of The HawtPlates – a family singing group that was formed in a one-bedroom apartment in The Bronx. She has performed on stage in Broadway productions For Colored girls, Once On This Island, The Color Purple (Celie, original cast), and Xanadu, and on screen The Black List, Tick Tick Boom, and others.  Her work spans experimental offerings by directors such as Charlotte Brathwaite, Kaneza Schaal, and Lars Jan, to major Broadway productions and concerts.  

The HawtPlates have worked with numerous organizations and artists across disciplines including Meshell Ndegeocello, Abigail DeVille, Kaneza Schaal, Hilton Als, Helga Davis, Queen Esther, Reggie “Regg Roc” Gray and The D.R.E.A.M. Ring, National Black Theater, The Public Theater, Performance Space New York, and The Park Avenue Armory among many others. The HawtPlates is comprised of drama desk-nominated composer/performer Justin Hicks, his sister, singer/songwriter Jade Hicks, and his wife Tony-nominated actor/singer Kenita Miller-Hicks.
